1. Sometimes a PC that keeps ‘freezing’ may be caused by something as simple as a wireless mouse or keyboard running out of batteries. If you do use a wireless mouse or keyboard, change the batteries before troubleshooting further.

  2. A computer that is overheating can be the cause of freezing and ‘locking up.’ If the CPU fan dies then chances are the CPU is overheating and causing a system lock-up. Check to see if the CPU fan is running. A fan’s ball-bearings tend to become noisy when they are about to expire.

  3. Freezing can be caused by corrupt drivers and hardware failure. Make sure your drivers are up to date.

  4. Freezing is sometimes the cause of a virus or malware. Viruses can bog down a computer’s processes until it becomes stuck. Make sure to run a virus and malware scan.
