Long delays when accessing files on local HDD.

 

It’s quite normal for a secondary mechanical drive to go to sleep when not in use, causing 3-5 seconds of lag when accessing files from it.

 

Make sure drive in question is set to ‘never go to sleep’ in Windows power plan settings.

 

How old is the HDD? Is it making irregular mechanical noises? ‘Could be that the drive is about to fail, back up your files ASAP as the drive will need to be replaced.

   

My computer keeps restarting.

Rebooting could be due to Hardware failure. Hardware failure or system instability can cause the computer to reboot automatically. The problem could be the RAM, Hard Drive, Power Supply, Graphic Card or External devices: – or it could be an overheating or BIOS issue.

 

Computer keeps freezing.

Freezing can be caused by corrupt drivers and hardware failure. Make sure your drivers are up to date.

 

My computer is slow

Not having enough space on a hard drive can cause lag.  Uninstall unwanted programs and files to free up space. We recommend keeping at least 100gb free on a HDD, and 50gb free on an SSD.

 

PC blue screen of death (BSOD.)

BSOD errors can occur when there is not enough space on the operating system hard drive. Uninstall unwanted programs and files to free up space, or move files not related to the operating system to another data storage device.

 

My computer is making unusual noises.

Very old HDDs that are about to fail can start making loud, mechanical noises. If your HDD is becoming very audible, back up your data right away, and look at replacing your HDD.

 

My computer won’t boot to Windows.

BIOS incorrectly set to IDE, not AHCI.
